“Ancestors: A Mapping of Indigenous Poetry and Poets” by Joy Harjo

Joy Harjo, the 2015 recipient of the Wallace Stevens Award from The Academy of American Poets, “for proven mastery in the art of poetry,” published an essay in Poets.org this week. It was a lecture from last October at Poets Forum in NYC. I find it a valuable touchstone for gaining a clearer perspective about Native American poetics and for poetry overall.
